The 8-day Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and well-balanced ways to climb Kilimanjaro. Starting on the remote western side, it offers a peaceful approach with stunning views, fewer crowds, and excellent acclimatization. This route is ideal for those who want to take their time and fully experience the mountain’s changing landscapes. Lemosho Route – 10 Days | 8-Day Climb + Pre & Post Night in Arusha

Day 1: Pre-Climb – Arrival in Tanzania

Welcome to Tanzania! Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, a member of our team will meet you and transfer you to your hotel in Arusha. In the afternoon or evening, your guide will meet you for a detailed climb briefing and gear check. This is also a great moment to ask questions and get to know your team.

Day 2 – Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Your Kilimanjaro trek begins at Machame Gate on the southwest side of the mountain. After registration, you’ll hike through dense montane rainforest. Keep an eye out for colobus monkeys and colorful birds as you gradually ascend through the lush greenery. The trail can be muddy, especially after rain. You’ll reach Machame Camp in the afternoon.

Day 3 – Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

Your Kilimanjaro journey begins with a drive to the western side of the mountain, followed by a gentle hike through lush rainforest. Keep an eye out for colobus monkeys in the treetops as you make your way to the first camp.

  • Habitat: Heath / Moorland Altitude: 2,820 m → 3,500 m Camp: Shira 1 Camp

 

Day 4 – Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

A shorter day to help with acclimatization. You’ll cross the open plateau with beautiful views of Kibo peak and enjoy a relaxed afternoon at camp.

  • Altitude: 3,500 m → 3,850 m Camp: Shira 2 Camp

 

Day 5 – Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp (via Lava Tower)

Today is all about “climb high, sleep low” to help your body adapt. You ascend to Lava Tower at 4,630 m before descending to the scenic Barranco Valley. Expect a challenging but rewarding day.

Day 6 – Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

You’ll begin the day by tackling the famous Barranco Wall a fun, hands-on climb with incredible views. The trail then continues through undulating terrain to Karanga Camp.

  • Habitat: Moorland / Alpine desert Altitude: 3,960 m → 4,035 m
  • Camp: Karanga Camp

 

Day 7 – Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

A shorter, gradual ascent through dry alpine terrain brings you to Barafu — your base camp before the summit. Rest, hydrate, and prepare for the early start.

  • Altitude: 4,035 m → 4,640 m Camp: Barafu Camp

 

Day 8 – Summit Day: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak, then down to Mweka Camp

You’ll begin the final push around midnight. After reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) at sunrise, you’ll descend all the way to Mweka Camp — a long and demanding day, but one you’ll never forget.

Day 9 – Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate and transfer to Arusha

Your final descent takes you back into the lush rainforest. At the gate, you’ll receive your summit certificate and celebrate with the team before heading back to Arusha. In Arusha, You’ll check in to your hotel, enjoy a warm shower, and have the rest of the day to rest or explore a bit of the city.

Day 10 – Departure Day

After breakfast, we’ll arrange your transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home. If you’re not ready to leave yet, this is also the perfect moment to extend your adventure with a safari or a relaxing trip to Zanzibar.
